A Better, Safer Way to Conduct Your Online, In Person Transactions. Mayor Paige Brown tasked the Gallatin Police Department to provide a safe area in which to conduct transactions for the citizens of Gallatin. As a result, the Gallatin Police Department is welcoming the public to our parking lot to close their online transactions in a safer way. When using online services like Craigslist and Varage Sales as well as Facebook and other social media sites to arrange transactions, safety should be first and foremost. Gallatin Police Department has state of the art recording cameras of our exterior areas thereby having a recording presence as well as nearby officers. Gallatin is one of the first in Tennessee to provide a safe area for their citizens for such transactions. Transactions will only occur in the parking lot only. No transactions will occur inside the Police Department building. We recognize and uphold the 2nd amendment for our citizens but no weapons will be allowed on the police premises thereby ensuring greater safety for those conducting transactions. Due to limited area of parking transactions times are limited to 5pm to 7am Monday thru Friday. Transactions can occur all day Saturday and Sunday.

The below photos are of a person of interest in a Burglary / Theft at 205 E. Main St (First Baptist Church). The incident would have occurred sometime during the night of 04/23/15. Cash was stolen from the Church. Any help in identifying the person in the photos would be greatly appreciated.

Investigator Daniel Soto was named the Officer of the Year for 2014 last night at the annual Gallatin Police Department Awards Ceremony. The event recognized employees of the department and citizens of Gallatin for outstanding achievement during 2014. Investigator Soto was selected by his fellow employees for outstanding job performance during the year. Officer Soto has been a member of the Gallatin Police Department since 2008. He was assigned to the CID Division in 2013 and works tenaciously and tirelessly on every case assigned to him. His hard work has resulted in the solving of many difficult cases in the last year due primarily to his dedication to the victims and the department. We congratulate him for this tremendous accomplishment.

Heather Nave, Records Clerk for the Police Department, was selected as Civilian Employee of the Year for 2014. Ms. Nave was recognized for outstanding performance of her duties and was selected by her fellow employees. Ms. Nave has also worked as a dispatcher and often still assists in the dispatch center. She has proven to be a valuable member of our team as she not only performs the duties of a records clerk, but also does the payroll for the department and assists anywhere else she is needed without complaining.

The officers of the Traffic Division were awarded commendations in recognition of their hard work, especially in handling many special events which often are held on weekends, requiring extra dedication from these officers.

Chief Don Bandy presented a Citizen Commendation and three “Chief’s Awards”. One commendation award was presented to Mrs Geneva Claborn in recognition of her support of the annual Shop with a Cop program. Every year, Mrs. Claborn makes a sizeable financial donation to this event, helping many underprivileged children during the holidays. Mr. Andrew Turner was recognized with the Chief’s Award for his support of the department and his contributions to the community. Mr. Turner served as principal of Rucker Stewart Middle school for many years and has been a role model and mentor to many students, many who are now adults and themselves making their own contributions to the community. Mr. Roy Augie was recognized for his years of tireless volunteerism to the department. Mr. Augie comes every week to help the Records Division to scan and upload all the department’s old case files into a digital format for the Records Management system. District Attorney General Ray Whitley was recognized along with members of the 18th Judicial Drug task force and other agencies that worked a year-long wire-tap operation in Gallatin and Sumner County last year taking down some major players in the drug and gang operations that contribute to the overall crime in our city. General Whitley has been a great partner to the GPD in focusing our efforts to make Gallatin a safer city and we applaud both him and the assistants in his office that make those efforts pay off.

Two former members of the department were recognized with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their many years of service to the community. Marie Smith worked for 44 years with the Gallatin Police Department before recently retiring for health reasons. Marie was a fixture on the department serving as a school crossing guard and parking enforcement officer. Danny Deyhle also recently retired after 40 years of service on the Gallatin Police Department. Danny served as a Field Training Officer, started the department’s traffic division and in the most recent years served as a crime scene investigator and evidence room manager. Both of these cherished employees will be missed and are both wished the best in their retirement.

All who were recognized with an award this year are to be congratulated for their contribution to the City of Gallatin and all they have done and continue to do to make Gallatin a great safe place to live.

Tennessee Law Enforcement Accreditation (TLEA) - Monday, April 06, 2015

Nashville, TN- The Tennessee Law Enforcement Accreditation (TLEA) Program is pleased to announce that it has granted accreditation status to the Gallatin Police Department. They were awarded this achievement during the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP) meeting held in Nashville, TN on March 26th, 2015.

To achieve accreditation with TLEA, an agency voluntarily submits to a process of enhancing the agency’s professionalism and effectiveness utilizing 160 law enforcement standards and participating in a thorough on-site assessment. For agencies already accredited by CALEA®, the process involves compliance with specific state standards and a thorough on-site assessment of the agency. The standards address a variety of areas including organizational, operational, safety, and budget management practices. Gallatin Police Department successfully accomplished TLEA accreditation by meeting criteria that measured the professionalism, organizational, and overall readiness in law enforcement policy and procedures. The program is intended to encourage cooperation, recognize professional standing, develop professional services and ensure public safety throughout the State of Tennessee..

Accreditation is a management tool establishing expectations of performance and procedures for an agency to follow. The standards only provide a goal of the finished product. It is up to the agency to establish its own policy and procedures to meet those standards, making them as simple or as complex as the agency feels is necessary. Accreditation provides a written guideline for management to operate the agency effectively, and productively aids in working relationships with other agencies and accountability to the citizens they serve. What accreditation brings to any agency is the knowledge that written policy is established and followed by all personnel. It is a living document that enables the entire agency to move forward professionally. The employees want the assurance that they are doing their job tasks correctly and are properly trained. Documentation is also a critical part of the accreditation process. An agency asks itself, “Did we do it by policy and did we do it correctly?” The answer should be yes because we followed policy and procedure and documented both for reference and historical fact. When familiarizing new personnel with the accreditation process, it is explained that accreditation standards require policy development, policy requires training, and training requires documentation. Some policies direct the daily operation of the agency while others only arise in certain circumstances. If questions arise on other issues, policy and procedure can be readily researched through the policy manuals. By following established policy, the employee lives the accreditation process daily without even thinking about it.

When policy exists, employees are more confident in their job tasks. Accreditation creates a better work environment, pride in the agency, and a more professionally productive work force. No agency takes on the challenge of accreditation alone. Those having achieved accreditation and many working toward that goal have resources to share. The results are well worth the challenge! “The standard of excellence that is met through this process is to be admired. We are proud to recognize the hard work of this department and its staff,” stated TACP President Chuck Forbis.

“We are proud to have achieved this goal and are committed to the continued pursuit of excellence in the delivery of police services to our citizens. Accreditation is a great tool to assist in holding ourselves accountable and to demonstrate that we meet the professional standards of modern law enforcement” —Chief of Police Don Bandy The Tennessee Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is a voluntary program that recognizes the excellence and professional achievement in law enforcement agencies across the State of Tennessee. The program began in 2010 through the hard work and efforts of the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police. There are currently 56 law enforcement agencies involved in the state accreditation program, 80% of them have less than 50 sworn officers in their departments. Thirty two agencies have achieved accreditation with eleven having achieved re-accreditation. It takes commitment, dedication, and hard work from the agency head, agency personnel and community leaders to meet the standards prescribed by the program. The time commitment involves up to a three-year process. The TLEA program is a valuable and cost effective way to enhance overall agency effectiveness, professionalism and risk management.
