In response to a growing number of burglar alarm calls-for-service, a majority of which were false alarms, the City of Gallatin adopted an ordinance in 1999 that requires that all alarm systems within the City of Gallatin be registered with the Gallatin Police Department. Alarm registration provides the City a way of holding alarm owners accountable for not properly maintaining their alarm systems, as well as increasing the quality of service that the Gallatin Police Department can provide in cases of actual emergencies.

Alarm owners must register their alarm systems by appearing in person at the Gallatin Police Department, 130 West Franklin Street. Alarm owners must bring contact information (name, address, and phone number) for at least two other people who have authorization to enter the residence and/or business. Providing this information will allow the Gallatin Police Department the opportunity to contact someone other than the alarm owner if an emergency occurs and the alarm owner is not available. After completing the alarm registration form, the alarm owner will be given an "Alarm Permit Sticker" which the alarm owner should place near the front door of the home or business. Placing this sticker in a visible place by the front door of the home or business will allow officers to more quickly access emergency contact information in the case of an emergency.

It should be noted the alarm systems ordinance also includes provisions limiting the number of times that the Gallatin Police Department will respond to a false alarm dispatch. A false alarm dispatch is an alarm call that the responding officers determine to be false and no actual emergency exists. The Gallatin Police Department will charge the alarm owner $25.00 for each false alarm dispatch after the Gallatin Police Department has responded to more than five (5) false alarm dispatches at the specific location in a calendar year. Additionally, the Chief of Police is authorized to revoke an alarm system's privileges if the alarm owner fails to properly maintain an alarm system or the alarm owner does not properly repair the alarm system after receiving notification of the alarm's malfunctioning.

Please contact the Gallatin Police Department at (615) 452-1313 or at info@gallatinpd.org if you have any additional questions or concerns regarding alarm registrations.
